A Super San Diego! This Week and Beyond!
Giving you a quick update on my SDCC! Lots of pictures!
My first San Diego Comic Con was in 1995. I was a teenager and lived in Southern California, so it was something I’d hear about at comic shops, smaller conventions, or in Wizard. It was the beast. That first year I only went for a day but it was magical. I met so many of my comics pros that I was dying to meet. It was the first time I was really able to get a lot of my books signed and meet some of comics biggest legends. I knew I had to come back the next year.
And now I’ve gone every year since. It’s been a summer destination for me since I was a kid. I love a lot of cons, but this one always feels like a homecoming for me. And this year was no different.
I love to see the comic fans and my friends. That’s really the highlight for me—the people. Grabbing a margherita in the middle of the day with my fellow comic pros and catching up. Talking comics. Getting a chance to hear from comic book readers about what they are loving. It’s empowering. It’s a creative recharge.
Over the years I’ve seen the con grow and change—from being a much smaller convention hall to now taking over the city. For the last decade it’s had a very strong movie and TV presence but this year it was all comics. And toys. And people spending money. I saw some many happy faces as people walked around with massive bags full of comic book exclusives. I might have even picked up a few myself.
But again the highlight was the people. Seeing my friends, talking comics and having some really exciting meetings about the future of comics. My own projects and the characters we all love. The next few years are going to be a blast.
Something I wish I did every year I’ve been was take more pictures. Thankfully this year others did that for me:
Then I did a BUNCH of panels. Well…four panels to be exact. I love doing panels. It’s a moment to get our message across to the readers.
I signed a LOT of comic books at this con. Signed a lot of these Primer giveaways. Thank you to everyone who came to the signings I did. The DC signings were great.
And here’s a look at the Skybound panel and my work in the Energon Universe. We’ll talk more about these books in the future. They both come after the events of Vault Rivals and Transformers, so I can’t really talk about them without spoiling the plot of those books. NYCC is going to be the place we FINALLY start to show off some of the work we’ve been doing.

OH and we finally announced SUPERMAN #850! This was planned for the start and will be a major moment for the Superman titles. We’ll do a more Superman-themed post early next week about this and an overall catch up on Superman really soon. We’re way past due! Get it in October!
As always, click the button above to make sure you’re keeping up to date on everything I’ve got going on, which is a LOT this week! Besides the latest on Knight Terrors FOCs, tomorrow we’re talking about THE HAUNTED MANSION! SPOOOOKY!
