ACTION COMICS #1050 Final Order Cut-Off is TODAY!
Action Comics #1050 is a special oversized anniversary issue that sets the stage for the Superman line in 2023!

Before it was announced that I would be starting a brand-new SUPERMAN series this upcoming February with Jamal Campbell, it was announced that I would be one of the writers on ACTION COMICS #1050 coming out this December.

It was tough keep the Superman gig a secret this last year, for a lot of reasons, but I’m sure for some it was obvious something was up once they found out about this issue. It’s part of why I didn’t advertise this issue all that much when it was first announced, I didn’t want to completely let the cat out of the bag. We’ll be talking more about that new series as we get closer to the release.
Tom Taylor and Phillip Kennedy Johnson have been crafting an awesome story with the Superman: Son of Kal-El series and the Action Comics series the last two years, and it was a highlight of the last year to talk with them about their books and plans as we developed this issue together. To jam on ideas and build something special.
We had certain goals and pieces that we wanted to use this issue to establish: It takes place post-Dark Crisis. It wraps up some story points from Superman: Son of Kal-El and Action Comics. It was a opportunity to show the tone of Dawn of DC, that the darkness of Dark Crisis was behind us and we were driving toward the light.
And we knew we wanted a really cool fight between Lex and Superman. It felt like it’s been a really long time since we had a epic battle between them.
OH and there was one major piece we put in this issue.
This last week DC revealed that piece…the Return of Clark Kent’s secret identity…
Here is my direct quote from that article: "The truth is a very important thing for Clark Kent. For someone to steal that from him is a tragic moment and created a lot of interesting drama and story possibilities for the Superman line in 2023. We wanted to play with all the pieces of the great and iconic Superman mythology that we all love. When this challenge was presented to us, we wanted to make sure it was not just magically being put back in the box. There are dangerous repercussions to how this happens that lead to more story to explore. And you'll see the start of that in Action Comics #1050!"
So long story short…this is a very important issue for the Superman line and DC Comics.
And today, Sunday November 27th, is the Final Order Cut-Off.

And one last thing before I go. I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about the amazing art team on the issue. Mike Perkins, Clayton Henry, and Nick Dragotta all brought the heat to this issue. And you tie it all together with Frank Martin Jr’s colors. It looks amazing!
For me personally, I loved working with Nick Dragotta. I’ve been a big fan ever since East of West and getting a chance to work with them here was a dream come true. It’s a taste of what we have coming up when he comes to the main Superman title later in 2023.
