BANE! Batman: One Bad Day Final Order Cut-Off is this Sunday!
Batman One Bad Day: Bane #1 (One-shot) covers and information on the story and art! And an early look at the first appearance of a new villain called "GRUDGE!" All before the FOC this weekend!
Last year DC told me that they had a plan to release a series of one-shots that focused on Batman’s amazing rogues gallery called “Batman One Bad Day” by a bunch of awesome creative teams. Check it out:
As you can see above, they asked me if I wanted to do write the BANE special. They already knew that Bane is one of my favorite Batman villains, so there was no way I could turn it down. And of course once they said it would be the great HOWARD PORTER, it was a done deal.
A PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE DESTROYED BY VENOM! Bane broke the Bat--he's one of the only villains to ever truly vanquish the Dark Knight--but is that all he's ever accomplished? Decades from now, Bane is a washed-up wrestler reliving his glory days in the ring, defeating someone dressed like Batman every day. But when he discovers that there's a new source of Venom in the world, he'll do everything he can to shut down the facility it's coming from for good and make sure that no one takes the poison that ruined his life. An epic saga set throughout Bane's life, expanding on the hopes, dreams, regrets, and failures of one of DC's most legendary villains, brought to you by the iconic creative team of Joshua Williamson (Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, The Flash) and Howard Porter (The Flash, Justice League).
Very excited to share this issue with everyone in February. When I was approached to do this one-shot, the challenge was that the greatest Bane one-shot had already been written. “Vengeance of Bane.” His first appearance, his origin, and one of my favorite one-shots ever. I didn’t want to re-write his origin. It’s iconic. So it was a struggle to crack the story and how it would be different from the rest of the “One Bad Day” issues. Then I was watching WrestleMania. Triple H, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, came out and left his boots in the ring. It was an emotional moment as he had some intense health issues the year before and was forced to retire. He never got to have his last match. But it was for the best. For his family the sacrifice was worth it. But watching him leave his boots in the ring made me think about what we consider to be our “life’s greatest moments.” And our ideas on legacy. And then it hit me. “The LAST Vengeance of Bane.” And it became a story about someone trying to recapture the greatest moment of their life and how it was impossible to do. Then I had the story. “Old Man Bane.” And it all came together in my head pretty quickly after that. Next I had to find the balance between the future storyline and the present day.
This issue is also the first appearance of a NEW villain called GRUDGE. Who is Bane’s new archenemy. They have the ability to inject anyone they touch with a deadly dose of venom! My goal here was to create a new enemy not just for the Batman family…but one for Bane as well.
Check out their insane look below!
Here is an interview Howard and I did with CBR that has a a lot of info on the special issue, but also a bunch of great art reveals.
