FLASH FILES 03! Along with some updates!
Talking about Flash #7 to #9 for paid subscribers along with some end of the week updates.
HELLO! Hope all had a great week!
Before we dive into FLASH FILES, here are a few small updates!
Halloween went by way too fast. October was a weird month. I didn’t watch as many horror movies as I normally do. I was only able to watch Nope, Barbarian and Ghostbusters Afterlife. ALL AWESOME. But WAY LESS than I normally watch during the spooky season. But then I remembered…I don’t have to only watch horror movies in October! So I watched the first IT movie last night. And will follow up with IT Chapter Two tonight!
This week I worked on SUPERMAN scripts and talked to Nick Dragotta about the story arc we’re doing together later in 2023. Nick is a storytelling genius and collaborating with him on this story has been amazing.
Here is a sneak peak at one of my favorite pages from ACTION COMICS #1050!
After Superman scripting, I worked on some outlines and plans for other new series. I cracked a #1 issue script for something that hasn’t been announced yet. Not sure when it will be. I always love that “page one panel one” feeling. Figuring out the best way to open an issue and end an issue is some of my favorite parts of this job. I have the first line of dialogue and a last page that will make you want to read the next issue, and excited to share more info on that…someday…
A bit of “F.O.C.” business. This weekend is the Final Order Cit-Off for the:
DARK CRISIS WAR ZONE #1 (ONE SHOT).

Here is the cover by Rafael Sarmento!
And now…we finally move to…
FLASH FILES 03
WELCOME TO FLASH FILES! My monthly annotated breakdown of every issue of my 100-Plus issue run of the Flash. Now before I begin, this is based on MY experiences on the Flash. I can’t speak for others. This is my own personal point of view on working on the Flash for almost 5 years. There will be some insights that I have now as I look back at the series along with behind the scenes notes you might not know. Working on the Flash was one of the BEST times of my life, but it was also a roller coaster with some ups and downs. I’m going to look at each issue. One by one. It’s a LOT of comics. So we better get started! I’m sure these will be full of typos that I will correct and update. Oh, one last thing before we begin… please don’t reproduce this newsletter without our permission.
The last Flash File we covered issues #4 to #6, and before we do #7 to #9 but today I’m going to rewind this a bit to December of 2015.
I had my big meeting with DC in November 2015 where we plotted out the opening arc of my Flash run. I had written and turned in Flash #1. Only to discover it wasn’t going to be a 22 page comic, but 20 pages. This was because the series was going to be double ship and cutting those two pages would help the Artist with the schedule. So I was spending some time on finding what I was cutting. I hadn’t received any notes from the editors yet. They were working on putting together the rest of the books for Rebirth and I’m a fairly fast writer and can be hard to keep up with. Sometimes. We didn’t know who the Artist was going to be yet and there was no super rush, YET. BUT I was excited, so I was working! I had already jumped in #2 and doing page breaks on #3.
Then I get a phone call from Brian Cunningham, the editor on Flash.
“I have to tell you something, that you can’t tell anyone…
We’re bringing Wally West back.”
