GHOSTED COMPENDIUM!
To celebrate the ten year anniversary of GHOSTED, Skybound is releasing a new compendium edition. Collects the entire 20-issue series for the first time!
Holy crap, it’s been ten years since Ghosted #1 came out…
But my story on it started a few years before that…
Ghosted for me started on Halloween 2011 when I turned in the first issue script.
When I started working on Ghosted, I was in a bit of a dark place in my life. I was angry for a variety of reasons. Feeling defeated and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to continue trying to break into comics. I had done a few jobs for Marvel, DC and some other publishers, but nothing ever really landed. It was a struggle.
And a major piece of that was because I was making the kinds of comics I thought people wanted. Not comics for me. I was aiming for a moving target. And not even a target I cared for very much. I wasn’t doing good work. But it wasn’t even work that I would BUY. I hadn’t found the ME in my work yet.
But then came Skybound. They offered me the room to breathe and try something different. To make a comic that I felt like if I picked up off the stand I would have enjoyed. It’s a bit raw, a bit angry and a bit dark. But I still try to crack a joke here and there. Exactly the mind set I was in at the time.
But it was in these pages that I started on the path of becoming the writer I am now. If it wasn’t for Ghosted there would be no Birthright, Nailbiter or Dark Ride. There would be no Flash, Robin or Superman. I had been working in comics for a few years before Ghosted but here is where I started to really TRY. Finally!
And I learned a lot from working on Ghosted. It helped me build confidence and a better understanding of what I wanted from the comics I was working on.
And then working with some great artists helped bring out the best in me. Goran Sudzuka, Miroslav Mrva, Davide Gianfelice, Juan Jose Ryp, Vladimir Krstic Laci and Rus Wooten. They all brought Ghosted to life.
Ghosted started as a 5 issue series but because of the success of the first few issues it was turned into a ongoing series that last 20 issues!
And now Skybound has collected all twenty issues of Ghosted into one massive collection. Hopefully people who have discovered my work from DC or Nailbiter will now pick up this series and give it a new life.
The cover to the first collection is one of my favorite covers I’ve ever had for a series. It was done by Matteo Scalera!
Here is the official press from SKYBOUND:
LOS ANGELES 01/24/2023 — Today Skybound announced the upcoming release of the Ghosted Compendium, collecting all 20 issues of Skybound’s horror/crime mash-up from creator/writer Joshua Williamson (Dark Ride, Birthright) and artists Goran Sudzuka (Y: The Last Man), Davide Gianfelice (Dylan Dog), and more in a single graphic novel collection. This compendium will be available everywhere books are sold September 2023.
“Wow, it’s been ten years. Ghosted is very special to me as not only was it two of my favorite genres: crime and horror smashed together into something new, it was also the start of me figuring out who I wanted to be as a writer,” said Joshua Williamson. “It was the first time I felt like I was putting myself on the page. It was life changing. And working with the tremendous artists and Skybound inspires me to this day.”
Jackson Winters is one of the greatest criminal masterminds to ever live…except he’s rotting in jail after his last doomed score. But when a filthy-rich collector breaks Winters out, he’s tasked to put together an elite team of paranormal experts to do the impossible: steal a ghost from a haunted house of horrors!
“Josh’s work has informed what a Skybound comic should be, from his historic run on Birthright to the sensational Dark Ride, but Ghosted came first,” said Sean Mackiewicz, SVP & Publisher, Skybound Entertainment. “After ten years, we wanted to reintroduce fans to the work of Josh, Goran, Davide, and the rest of the team who created a page-turning horror heist comic that’s impossible to put down.”
The Ghosted Compendium will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, and everywhere books are sold on Tuesday, September 26, 2022.
Even now as we get the Compendium edition together and I go back through the pages I continue to learn things. About my writing and what I want to write next. I hope you check it out this September.
