In March of this year we launched a special issue of Justice League called “The Death of the Justice League.” It was acting as a prelude to Dark Crisis and I knew we needed it to make the cover something special. This was about a year ago actually. Rafa Sandoval was hard at work on drawing the issue, and with Daniel being the main artist on Dark Crisis we knew that he’d be a perfect first for the cover. We had some conversations with editorial but the ideas that went back and forth never landed.
And then I had an idea…
Back in the 90’s when DC did these anniversary issues for the titles “100th” issue they did this theme with giant block letters on the covers.
And that inspired an idea that I designed and shared with Daniel.
